Abstract

Abstract During a floristic survey of Melastomataceae carried out in Biribiri State Park and around Diamantina, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, we found a new species of Microlicia, which is endemic to campos rupestres from the Espinhaco Mountain Range. Microlicia longicalycina has flowers with long calyx lobes, a dense indumentum of glandular trichomes on the hypanthium, leaves with a light green and ciliate margin, and with a mix of glandular trichomes and pale, thickened, long trichomes. A discussion on the leaf anatomy of the species is provided.
