Abstract

Desde finales del siglo XVIII, la Monarquía y la Iglesia dejaron de ser los principales protectores de las bellas artes; un espacio ocupado cada vez más por las instituciones estatales durante el reinado de Isabel II. En este cambio de modelo se abrieron muchos debates sobre la naturaleza de los bienes nacionales, la separación entre el patrimonio real y el nacional o el papel de las instituciones gubernamentales en la protección de los artistas. Cuestiones contestadas mediante políticas culturales que dieron diversos frutos. El objeto de estas páginas es adentrarnos en esos debates artísticos, concretamente a partir de dos proyectos museísticos —el Real Museo del Prado y el Museo Nacional de la Trinidad—, y analizar los mensajes políticos que se desprendían de su formación, evolución y organización.
