Abstract

The archaeology is day to day playing a crucial role around the world. If at the beginning, archaeology’s role had been an interest on heritage of ancestors, but now another different side for preserving archaeological sites for stateless nation is, to educate enough sufficient archaeological cadres by establishing archaeology department at Salahaddin University in early 2000. Due to lack of awareness and different justifications, heritage is continuously facing elimination. So, laws and regulations can play a significant role to keep preserving both archaeological sites and its identity in Kurdistan region particularly, Iraq in general which they work under the international law, treaty and organizations like UNISCO and Hague treaty in 1945. Despite several wars and conflicts in the region, the heritages and civilization sites were preserved by KRG. Recently, ISIS started to destroy hundreds of heritages in the Iraq in the name of religion. The most important point is, looting and heritage trafficking which has been a real threat in the region. We sometimes imagine that central governments would pave a way to let destroy its rival nation’s archaeology. In this research, we tried to reveal the importance of archaeology and heritage as an identity as well as role of governmental institutions for raising awareness citizens, familiarizing children with heritage and its significance because we think that this makes a brighter future for archaeology.
