Abstract
Jurij Japelj provided data that clearly shows that the eighteenth-century Ljubljana dialect used the reflex u: for circumflexed o: and neoacute-stressed o with early lengthening, which agrees with Jakob Rigler’s theory of the historical basis of standard Slovenian phonology.
