Abstract
Low density ceramic microspheres were prepared using kaolinite and magnesite as the main raw materials. The influences of sintering temperatures and holding time on the properties were studied. The results showed that the main crystal phases of ceramic microspheres were indialite, mullite and spinel. The volume density of the as-prepared ceramic microspheres was apparently lower than that of normal alumina microspheres. When the proportion of kaolinite and magnesite changed, the best sintering temperatures and the optimum holding time were slightly different.
