Abstract
A new digitally controlled dB-linear variable gain amplifier (VGA) circuit is presented. The circuit is developed taking into account system level issues for a direct conversion receiver. The circuit uses a novel technique to digitally implement a dB-linear gain characteristic of 25 dB. The proposed VGA can process voltage or current input signals and operates in a fully differential configuration. APLAC simulations and experimental results from a 2 /spl mu/m chip fabricated through MOSIS are provided.
