Abstract

A polymer-stabilised blue-phase liquid crystal display (PSBP-LCD) with double-side in-plane switching (DS-IPS) electrode structure is proposed. The DS-IPS electrodes generate more horizontal fields to induce isotropic-to-anisotropic transition in the BP-LC medium through the Kerr effect. The strip electrodes of the top glass substrate help to lower the operating voltage and promote the transmittance. A low voltage (∼19.5 V) and high transmittance (∼98%) BP-LCD can be achieved.
