Abstract

The steam reforming of hexane was studied in the temperature range of 450∼500°C under the pressure of 1∼30atm by using nickel catalyst. The results obtained are summarized as follows:1) The equilibrium composition of products is determined by the following two reactions: i) CO+H2O_??_CO2+H2 ii) CO+3H2_??_CH4+H2O2) The rate determining step is involved in the decomposition of hexane by steam, and the reactions i) and ii) are fast.3) It is deduced that the reactant adsorbed on nickel is hexane and steam in gaseous phase or weakly adsorbed state reacts with the adsorbed hexane.
