Abstract

Sodium zirconium phosphate (NZP) was synthesized by microwave-assisted solid-state reaction method with addition of x wt.% excess Na2CO3 powders (where x = 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10). The effects of the synthesis temperature and the excess sodium content on the phase compositions of the resultant samples were systematically investigated. XRD and Raman results showed that pure NZP phase could be synthesized successfully at 1100 °C for 2 h when 5 wt.% of excess sodium was introduced. Comparing with the traditional solid-state reaction method, the microwave-assisted solid-state method with the addition of appropriate excess sodium was beneficial to the synthesis of pure NZP phase, which would provide a new idea of achieving the low-temperature rapid synthesis of compounds of NZP family.
