Abstract

We report on thermoelectric power (TEP) and Hall effect measurements on the magnetically ordering heavy fermion systems YbCu4Au and YbCu4Pd and their nonmagnetic reference Lu-compounds. Measurements were performed in the temperature range 0.5 K<T<300 K; the Hall effect was reported in magnetic fields up to 12 T. The Neel temperatures of YbCu4Au and YbCu4Pd are given in literature asTN=0.6 K andTN=0.8 K, respectively. The magnetic order manifests itself in the TEP and the Hall coefficient by corresponding maxima and minima. Minima in the TEP atT≈25K are observed with values as high asS=−80 μV/K (YbCu4Pd) and −140 μV/K (YbCu4Au).
