Abstract

The two-photon fluorescence excitation spectrum and polarization ratio of chrysene have been measured in the spectral region 370-230 nm. Totally symmetric electronic transitions have been observed which provide direct evidence of A g ππ * states in the near-UV. Comparison with MO-CI calculations offers strong support to our experimental assignment.
