Abstract

The effect of virtual pions in low-energy properties of nuclei and the interaction with nuclei of low-energy real pions are discussed in terms of the information extracted from the exact soft-pion limit. The subjects treated in this way are the exchange current phenomena, the sum rules connecting these to quantities measurable in high energy sxperiments, the production, absorption and scattering of pions near threshold, and the extraction from π-mesic data of an information on the chiral symmetry breaking in strong interaction Hamiltonian.
