Abstract
Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and cyclic voltammetry were used to examine the surface structure of flame-annealed platinum (100), (110), and (111) electrodes. Well-defined LEED patterns were obtained for these surfaces but only after heat treatment in vacuo at 400°C in order to remove surface contaminants. The cyclic voltammograms correspond to those expected for these low index platinum surfaces from prior studies.
