Abstract
The crosstalk of an arrayed-waveguide grating multi/demultiplexer was reduced by employing a phase compensating plate developed for static phase control. Experimental results showed low crosstalk values of –37 and –39 dB for the TE and TM modes, respectively, in an 8 × 8 100 GHz-spacing arrayed-waveguide grating multi/demultiplexer. This novel method offers polarisation independent phase control for a closely arranged waveguide array.
