Abstract

As the size and resolution of TFT-LCD panels increase, the parasitic capacitance and resistance of data lines grow larger while one row-line-time becomes shorter. Because of the large RC-delay of the data line, the rate of transferring the analog video signal voltage to the pixel through the data lines becomes insufficient during one row-line-time. In this paper, we propose a pre-emphasis TFT-LCD source driver that can compensate for the RC-delay of large size TFT-LCD panel with heavy loads. It can select multiple pre-emphasis levels and time steps that can drive and verify the pre-emphasis characteristics at various sizes and resolution TFT-LCDs with heavy loads. The proposed pre-emphasis source driver is fabricated in 0.18-mum CMOS process with 20 V optional high voltage process, and it is demonstrated in 55-inch diagonal size and HD resolution TFT-LCD panel.
