Abstract

Commercial LED drivers, especially for street-light applications, mandate high performance, low cost and reliable operation. In this paper, an enhanced performance single-stage LED driver is proposed. The proposed topology adopts a fly-back based single-phase line-rectifier. The flyback converter's duty cycle is designed offline to achieve a unity power factor without an input filter. A double line frequency π-network CLC filter is utilized, featuring a reduced-value long-life ceramic non-polarized capacitor. The presented topology offers: (i) unity power factor operation, (ii) reduced LED current ripples, (iii) small footprint, (iv) non-polarized capacitor implementation, and (v) high reliability. LED driver prototype is implemented and attested. Simulation in addition to experimental results validates the proposed topology effectiveness.
