Abstract

LOVE-and religion are central themes in the fiction of Eqa d Queiroz and have often received critical attention. The close relationship between these two themes has not been adequately explored. In A reliquia, 0 crime do Padre Aniaro and the short story Jose Matias, love and liturgy function interdependently. Ega subverts the experience of love and worship by satirically defining one in terms of the other.
