Abstract
Abstract Imagining the loss of that which we value-including our health, abilities, possessions, and relationships-can heighten our awareness and appreciation of what we have. It can also provide us with the impetus to act on our appreciative feelings and thereby enhance the quality of our lives. This article examines the concept of imagining loss in detail. Included is a discussion of the benefits associated with imagining loss, applications of this concept, problems that could arise from imagining loss, and future directions for research.
