Abstract
I am a second generation Puerto Rican American on my mother’s side and a fourth generation German American on my father’s side. I identify primarily as a Latina lesbian. I have been reclaiming my identity since 1976, when I came out as a lesbian. The process of reclaiming my Latina identity occurred at the same time that I acknowledged my lesbianism consciously. My uneasy relationship with my mother improved when I embraced wholeheartedly my Puerto Rican heritage, language, and culture.
