Abstract

Cueva de El Castillo (Puente Viesgo, Cantabria) contains a great quantity of palaeolithic images which in addition shows a significant formal diversity. “The signs” make up one of the most outstanding thematic categories of the cave. In this paper, we present the results derived from the morphological, technical, contextual and topographical analysis of the oval signs. From this data we put forward an interpretative hypothesis of their significance and we bring up an approach of their chrono-cultural attribution.
