Abstract
The experience of 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games is taken into account in Rio de Janeiro now that the city is organizing the 2016 Olympics. The comparison allows two considerations: the analysis of what happened in Barcelona 92 can help Rio to learn and evaluate the successes and limitations of an experience that they, from the distance of time and space, greatly appreciate. But in the reflection of the Rio elements people from Barcelona can find elements to reassess the experience of the 1992 Olympic Games. The key lesson is that the actions that were made in Barcelona for the Olympics, as well as the actions related with urban planning, can be better organized with the citizenship active participation.
