Abstract

On 5 March 1999, the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) issued a consultation paper on the development of E-commerce in the UK, with the aim of setting a basis for the introduction of a Bill on Electronic Commerce during the current Parliamentary session. This paper considers the proposals put forward by the DTI in the light of the positions adopted by ( inter alia) the European Union and the United States, and considers what form the eventual Bill could (or should) take.
