Abstract
The MIDUS study offers unique opportunities for examining the nature of longitudinal retention and the challenges of retaining participants in a national study of health and well-being across time. Begun in 1995, MIDUS (Midlife in the U.S.) investigates aging as an integrated bio-psycho-social process (http://midus.wisc.edu/) and completed three waves of survey data collection as of 2015; retention characteristics of the sample will be modelled and profiled for waves 2 and 3. Additionally, the presentation will discuss a new MIDUS project designed to convert living participants who have dropped out, examine the extent to which attrition is ignorable, and test the effectiveness of different imputation strategies for modelling missing data due to attrition. Finally, administrative and outreach strategies for maintaining contact with longitudinal participants will be reviewed.
