Abstract

Objective To observe the long-term efficacy of integrative traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of hemiplegia secondary to stroke.Methods 100 patients with hemiplegia were divided into a control group and a study group,50 for each group.The control group received conventional Western therapy; while the study group received acupuncture and Chinese medicine in addition to routine treatment.Improvement in spasm,Barthel index,and Fugl-Meyer score were compared between the two groups.Results The study group was superior to the control group in improvement in lower limb spasm (P<0.05); Barthel index and Fugl-Meyer scores were significantly improved in both groups after treatment (P<0.05); Barthel index and Fugl-Meyer scores were significantly better in the study group than in the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions Integrative traditional Chinese and Western medicine can effectively improve muscle tension in patients with hemiplegia,enhance limb motor functions,and reduce disability.It is worth popularizing clinically.
