Abstract

To clarify the interlayer correlation in ferroelectric and antiferroelectric smectics, a correlation field approximation theory in the transfer matrix method is developed on the basis of an anisotropic Ising model. The correlation functions in both directions of layer normal and within the layer are calculated at various temperatures, and weakened interlayer correlation is depicted, where the long range order is isotropic in nature.
