Abstract

It is shown by using a multichannel spectrometer that in the reaction of active nitrogen with CO, there is a competition between two processes : - for a short contact time (< 20 ms) a quenching effect on the first positive system of N 2 and on the atomic nitrogen concentration, - for a long contact time (~ 60 ms) an enhancement of the vibrational populations of N 2(B 3Π g ) specially for v' = 12 and on the atomic nitrogen concentration. These enhancements may be due to a vibrational excitation of CO by N 2(X 1∑ + g) v* followed by : ▪
