Abstract

Rescue excavations in Eastern Locris and Northeast Phocis undertaken by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Fthiotida and Evrytania, revealed structural remains of the Hellenistic and early Roman periods, identified as watch‑towers belonging to organized systems for guarding and protecting communication networks, either terrestrial or maritime. These structures provide new evidence concerning practices of defense and safe communication between the above mentioned regions, where, until recently, there were no excavation records.
