Abstract
SUMMARY18 S macroglobulin was localised by specific fluorescent antibody in plasmablast cells of the bone marrow of a patient suffering from cryogel‐macroglobulinaemia. Specific fluorescence was not observed in mature plasmacytes, or in the plasmacytes of the patient's lymph‐nodes. The cells showed both cytoplasmic and nuclear fluorescence in contrast to those of a previous case of macroglobulinaemia reported by the author in which only cytoplasmic fluorescence was found in mature and immature bone marrow plasma cells. Other workers have found only nuclear fluorescence in lympho‐cytoid cells from a case of macroglobulinaemia. It is suggested that these differences are a reflection of the cytochemical diversity underlying the well‐known clinical diversity of macroglobulinaemia.
