Abstract

Global warming is one of the dominating themes in recent news. This working paper is an investigation of public available meteorological data from 1948 to 2018 for Austria. Although the topic is “very hot” the quality of freely available data has room for improvement. The analysis shows that there is not a single trend since 1948. There are even sub-periods with a significant decline. 48% of Austria is covered by wood. Forestry is an important sector of the Austrian economy. There are serious concerns about the impact of global warming and especially the decline of precipitation on forestry. There is only a minor decline of precipitation. The dominating effect is the increase in temperature. The author is a trained statistician and a passionate hacker. He has no background in meteorology. The purpose of this study was to have some fun with data mining.
