Abstract

Ex-situ local switching is a useful method for studying the domain structure evolution during polarization reversal in the individual grains of the ferroelectric ceramics. In this paper, the local switching by a biased tip of atomic force microscope was studied in the single crystals and ceramics of barium titanate BaTiO3 (BTO). The initial domain structure in BTO crystal was also studied. The domain growth during local switching in the crystal and individual grains of ceramics was characterized in terms of the parameters of the domain wall motion.
