Abstract

Experimental investigations on the fluid flow and the local heat transfer from a square prism at angle of attack to an airstream were carried out in the range 1.1 × 10 4 ⩽ Re ⩽ 5.3 × 10 4. Characteristics of the local and average heat transfer on each face were made clear in connection with the flow characteristics. The heat transfer coefficients in the reattachment region and that on the rear face are examined. The average heat transfer coefficients on the rear face are related to the r.m.s. fluctuating pressure and divided into two groups: perfect separation type and reattachment type.
