Abstract

Mg2Ca precipitate effect on the local galvanic corrosion behavior of Mg-Ca alloy was quantitatively evaluated using the surface potential difference between Mg2Ca and α-Mg matrix measured by scanning Kelvin probe force microscopy. In a saltwater immersion test, discontinuous Mg2Ca precipitates acted as anodes and remarkably eroded rather than the matrix.
