Abstract

This paper describes and explains the use of LNS (LonWorks Network Service) Object Server for the design and management of control networks for Distributed Control applications. LNS, a network kernel for control network, providing a hierarchy of objects, can be used for the design of application tools for managing LON-based (Local Operating Network) distributed control network. LON is a technology patented by Echelon Corporation, USA. The core application hardware and firmware (processors, system image for example) for LON technology are being manufactured by many companies including Motorola and Toshiba. This paper reviews aspects of DCS, describes the underlying architecture of the LNS, designs a management software using LNS and provides new and useful information to the advanced practitioners and researchers working in this field.
