Abstract

Abstract Sadegh Hedayat (1903–1951) was an internationally recognized Iranian writer, translator, and intellectual. He was considered one of the earliest and the most influential Iranian writers in the development of modern Persian literature. He was best known for his psychological novel The Blind Owl and the satire Hajji Aqa ( Ḥajjī Āqā ). By considering Hedayat as a modern Persian dervish, we read Hedayat's works in the context of Persian Sufi literature and learn that Hedayat's endeavor to recover Iranian traditional culture and his adoption of traditional Persian literary skills have successfully made him an outstanding Iranian writer among his contemporaries in World Literature.
