Abstract

The concept of lithium activity and reactivity are often recited in literature, yet their meanings are confusing at times, not to mention that how to characterize them remains elusive. Here, in this perspective article, a clear definition to differentiate lithium activity and reactivity is explained and practical examples of activity versus reactivity are illustrated and quantified. The proper method to describe, characterize, and determine each is rationalized. By clarifying these two properties and methods of characterizing them, the author hopes that better description and definitive characterization of activity and reactivity can be achieved in the future work to help understanding electrochemical phenomena and processes accessibly.
