Abstract

The present article outlines the artistic connections between literature and painting, which are even more closely linked by the symbolist trend in the last quarter of the 19th century. The case of the work «The vision of Fray Martin», particularly interesting for its literary and plastic values, is analysed, as seen through the form of expression of a poet (Gaspar Nunez de Arce) and a painter (Jose Jimenez Aranda), almost exact peers and therefore sharing similar aesthetic concerns, which draw them to the field of symbolism.
