Abstract

LIS: Library and Information Science - Distance education utilizes a variety of communication modes from interactive television to the Internet. The various American Library Association (ALA) accredited programs choose which, if any, approach works for their constituents. Based on a 79% response rate to a questionnaire sent to every ALA-accredited program in the United States and Canada, this study identifies the modes currently in use and planned for responding programs. An analysis of basic distance education modes, and examination of student concerns, and a description of special requirements for distance students augment this snapshot of distance education in library and information science programs.
