Abstract

The purpose of the project is to conduct a statistical survey of library and information science programs in the United States (about 420), Canada (about 25), and Mexico (about 5) for 1968-69 projected to 1969-70, and to compare the results with the previous study for the period 1966-68 which was published by the American Library Association in July 1968. The study would differ from the previous survey to the extent that it will provide additional data about eie support of library and information science programs by federal resources by identifying amounts of funds under various Federal Acts (how many students received degrees, participated in institutes, how many additional faculty members were employed, what specific new programs were initiated, what research conducted will provide more salary data of administrative staffs and teaching faculty; include library education programs in Mexico, establish trend data for graduate, undergraduate and teaching library and information science education programs in the three countries. The resulting publication which will be released by the American Library Association will cover the following topics: Federal Support for and Income and Expenditures of Library EduSchick is Director of the School of Library and Information Science, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
