Abstract
Measurement of the count rate stability of 22 liquid scintillation counters are presented using standard gamma and neutron sources, the latter with PSD applied against gammas. Each detector system is nominally identical and no explicit method of gain stabilisation is incorporated. Large fluctuations between individual detector performances are noted in the gamma measurement, the best showing count rate fluctuation within Poisson uncertainties, the worst showing substantial time dependent effects. Changes in detector orientation also produce noticeable count rate changes in some cases. Simultaneous measurements of temperature and mains voltage fail to account for count rate variation.
