Abstract

Catalytic behavior of K2Cr2O7 supported on SiO2 has been tested in the liquid phase oxidation of benzene to phenol. A small amount of phenol is detected in the presence of air. The yield of phenol is almost 100 times larger than on air oxidation when H2O2aq is used as an oxidant.
