Abstract

Analysis of the performance of bubble column and trickle-bed reactors with respect to the liquid phase methanol synthesis is presented. Performance of the reactors is simulated for conditions that may be used in a commercial scale operation. Liquid phase methanol systhesis was introdced because temperature control is easier than in conventional vapor phase processes. Computations show that the temperature can be kept within reasonable limits in both three-phase reactors. Within the operating conditions investigated in this work, the performance of the reactors is found to be comparable.
