Abstract

Oriented single crystals of lead have been grown from the melt using copper crystals as seeds. It was found in all cases that the orientation of the epitaxial lead crystals was identical to that of the copper substrate. The results are analysed in terms of atomic misfit and interfacial free energy relationships at the copper-lead interface.
