Abstract

Here, we present liquid-infused surfaces (LISs) fabricated on an aluminum substrate using the anodizing method to introduce specific nanofeatures infiltrated by silicone oil to reduce the friction between ice and surface. To achieve various nanostructures on the aluminum substrate, the anodizing conditions are varied. The ice adhesion stress could be significantly plummeted to 21.7 kPa on an LIS with optimized dimensions for nanofeatures. Frost formation tests in environments with a relative humidity of 75 % on the fabricated surfaces with a temperature of −17 ℃ reveal that the fabricated samples can considerably extend the frost formation time. The frosting time for the fabricated sample can reach 47 min, whereas the bare aluminum is completely covered by frost only after 1.5 min
