Abstract

Our report is devoted to the investigation results for the volumetric properties of mercury telluride and CMT (cadmium mercury tellurium) alloys in a liquid phase by the gamma radiation attenuation method. These substances are widely used as materials in electronic engineering and are popular objects for experiments in space material science. Wider use of electronic devices based on CMT is being retarded by the difficulties of homogeneous material production. Different techniques are being used to solve the question of single bulk uniform crystals, but they haven’t yet succeeded completely.1,2 Chemically homogeneous single crystals of solid solution couldn’t have been obtained even under zero gravity, although the attempt to solve that question by this technique is being continued. It should be noted that we do not know all of the mechanisms by which gravitation influences the degree of homogeneity of solid solutions obtained by unidirectional solidification.
