Abstract

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a predominantly genetically determined low-density lipoprotein (LDL) like particle attached covalently to apolipoprotein(a) [1]. Elevated Lp(a) levels are causally linked with increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and calcific aortic stenosis [1]. In patients with established CVD, higher Lp(a) levels are associated with increased CVD risk irrespective of LDL-cholesterol level [2]. Additionally, in coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery patients, elevated Lp(a) is associated with early vein graft occlusion [3].
