Abstract

AbstractNanostructured lipid carriers were designed to deliver the drug safely and efficiently from the area of application to the target size. They are called nanocarriers because of their size which is about few nanometres only. Solid lipid nanocarriers (SLN) were the first generation nanocarriers. Due to the inefficacy of SLNs, NSL (nanostructured lipid carriers) were formulated. SLNs could not deliver the drug efficiently to the target site. Out of numerous nanocarriers, lipid nanocarriers are the most suitable ones for efficient drug delivery systems because of their biocompatibility. These can be used to deliver the drugs orally, parenterally, pulmonary, and topical route also. Lipid nanocarriers make the most revolutionizing research in the flourishing field of nanotechnology. Lipid nanocarriers can be used in various fields—pharmaceutics, clinical medicine, scientific research, and other different fields of study. Lipid nanocarriers as drug delivery agents are truly promising.KeywordsLipid nanocarriersSolid lipid nanocarriersNanostructured lipid carriers
