Abstract

The Government's annual across-the-board pay award for nurses, a 3.2 per cent increase, was predictable but disappointing, and cannot fuel the increase in recruitment the Government has anticipated. Nurses in Britain continue to receive salaries that make it increasingly difficult for Trusts to persuade the cream of recent qualifiers to take up posts, while increasingly our brightest nurses look elsewhere for career development within a thriving international marketplace for their skills.
