Abstract

The article recalls the magnitude and unity of Lionello Sozzi’s critical work that developed as a network so as to flourish in the summae of his last years. It points out the issue of the transition from Enlightenment to Romanticism, a period whose unity had for long been neglected and, till date, is still difficult to define in French cultural tradition. Lionello Sozzi was the initiator of a collective research on “The Metamorphosis of Enlightenment” which his followers still carry on. The 1786 comic opera Nina ou la folle par amour by Marsollier Des Vivetières, music by Dalayrac, was played, imitated, parodied, and commented on till Mid-Nineteenth Century in Europe. It illustrates the significance of an era and the fertility of a research which refuses the boundaries between centuries, languages and subject fields.
