Abstract

In this Letter a very compact formulation of the theory of the electroelastic effect of extensional mode resonators is presented. The expression derived is quite general insofar as no special assumptions concerning the orientation of the resonator are made. It is applicable to arbitrary piezoelectric materials and is not restricted to any particular material symmetry properties. On the basis of this general result, the source of linear dependencies encountered in the interpretation of experimental work find an explicit and direct explanation.
