Abstract

Theoretical computations of linear and third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes of a GaAs strongly oblate ellipsoidal quantum dot under the effect of external electric field have been performed. The dependence of nonlinear optical absorption coefficient and refractive index changes on light intensity has also been studied. The results show that an increase in the electric field causes a blue shift and increases the peaks of the absorption coefficient and has almost no effect on the refractive index change peaks. Intensity of electromagnetic field has a great influence on both of these parameters.
